Thrashers Acquire Forward Chris Thorburn from Pittsburgh

Atlanta, GA (June 22, 2007) -- The Atlanta Thrashers have acquired forward Chris Thorburn from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for the second of Atlanta's two third-round selections (78th overall) in this weekend's NHL Entry Draft, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell.

Thorburn, 24, appeared in 39 games for the Penguins last season, recording five points (three goals, two assists) and 69 penalty minutes. A native of Sault St. Marie, Ontario, Thorburn has tallied six points (three goals, three assists) in 41 career games with Pittsburgh and Buffalo.

The 6-3, 210-pound forward registered 102 points (41 goals, 61 assists), along with 398 penalty minutes, in 211 AHL games with the Rochester Americans and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Prior to turning pro, Thorburn enjoyed a successful junior hockey career, recording 203 points (79 goals, 124 asssits) in 253 games with North Bay, Plymouth and Saginaw of the Ontario Hockey League.

Originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round (50th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Thorburn was claimed on waivers by Pittsburgh on Oct. 3, 2006.
