************************* Penguins sign draft pick Jeffrey

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Dustin Jeffrey to a three-year entry-level contract, it was announced Tuesday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Jeffrey was selected by the Penguins in the sixth round (171st overall) in the 2007 Entry Draft in June.

He played in two pre-season games for the Penguins and collected one point (an assist) versus the Montreal Canadiens on September 18.

During a prospects tournament in Kitchener in early September, Jeffrey tied for the team lead in scoring among the Penguins prospects with five points (3+2) as the team captured the tournament championship.

Jeffrey, 19, has spent the last three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

He has scored 155 points (62 + 93) in 190 games split between Mississauga and Sault Ste. Marie.

Jeffrey had a breakout season in 2006-07 leading Sault Ste. Marie with 92 points (34 + 58).

He also led the club with 18 points (6 + 12) in 13 playoff games.

Jeffrey currently leads his team with 12 points (4 + 8) in five games this season.

He recorded a point on all six goals (1 + 5) in Sault Ste. Marie’s 6-2 victory on Sunday.

The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club is pleased to announce that co-captain Dustin Jeffrey has been named Boston Pizza OHL player of the week and has also be signed to an entry-level contract with the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.

Jeffrey, a native of Courtright, Ontario is coming off a big weekend for the Hounds.

In three road games the Hounds 2006/07 leading scorer grabbed 3 goals and 6 assists, good for 9 points.

Jeffrey opened up the scoring in the games in Peterborough and Kingston while also being named 2nd star in the game versus the Petes.

In the final game of the weekend Jeffrey factored in all six Hounds goals (1 goal, 5 assists) in helping his team to a 6-2 victory.

Dustin enters tomorrow’s contest versus Sarnia sitting fifth in league scoring while holding a team-leading 12 points.

While in a separate announcement Pittsburgh Penguin Executive Vice-President and GM Ray Shero announced a three-year entry-level contract deal for Jeffrey.

Selected in the sixth round (171st overall) in this past summer’s NHL Entry draft Dustin went on to take part in both the Penguins rookie camp and main camp.

At the Penguins prospect tournament in Kitchener Dustin tied for the team scoring lead with five points and would later grab one assist in two pre-season games for Pittsburgh.

That assist came September 18 versus Montreal.
