Peewee B Wildcats win provincial title

The Sault Ste. Marie "Peewee B" National Supply/Mara-Tech Aviation Wildcats came away with a Gold Medal at the Ontario Womens Hockey Association (OWHA) Provincial Championships held at Arenas located throughout the Greater Toronto Area this past weekend.

Qualifying Teams representing 16 OWHA Regions participated in the Peewee B Division.

A Round Robin format consisting of four Pools was used to further qualify eight teams for play-off contention. The top two teams in each Pool went on to a quarterfinal game played Saturday night. Two semi-final games were played early Sunday morning and the Championship Final went at 12 noon on Sunday.

Sault Ste. Marie won all six of its games to gain the provincial title.

In round robin action, the Wildcats defeated the Ilderton 2-0, Brampton 6-0 and Twin Centre 3-1 to finish first in Pool A.

In quarterfinal and semi-final action, the Wildcats defeated the Scarborough Sharks 6-0 and the Clearview Ice Cats 3-1.

In the final, Sault Ste.Marie matched up against the Ilderton Jets for the second time in the tournament and the Soo squad came away with another victory posting a 3-0 shutout.
