The grand opening of the Steelback Centre coupled with the General's unveiling of the Oshawa Sports and Entertainment Facility gives the Ontario Hockey League two new areas to showcase during the 2006-07 season.
The Greyhounds open their new digs on October 11 against the Sudbury Wolves.
The Generals will open the season at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium before the grand opening of the new arena on November 3 against the Owen Sound Attack.
Oshawa's new building will seat 5,400 and features state-of-the-art amenities such as private suites and pro-calibre dressing and training facilities.
The two cities join Barrie, Brampton, Guelph, Kitchener, London, Mississauga, Peterborough, Plymouth, Saginaw and Sarnia with new or refurbished buildings during the past decade. The Kingston Frontenacs expect to be playing in their new facility during the 2007-08 season.
*** STAAL NUMBER FOUR:
When Jared Staal opens the season with the Sudbury Wolves, he will become the fourth brother to play in the OHL.
Jared will suit up this season with brother Marc on the Wolves should Marc not stick with the New York Rangers.
Last year, Jordan Staal helped the Peterborough Petes to the OHL title while Carolina Hurricanes star Eric Staal also played three seasons with the Petes.
