OCAA weekend wrap up

In OCAA action this weekend, Algoma University's men's and women's basketball teams as well as Sault College's men's basketball and women's volleyball teams were in action at home on Friday and Saturday.

The two schools played host to the Niagara College Knights varsity teams over the weekend.

On Friday night, Algoma University hosted the Knights at Korah Collegiate. Due to scheduling conflicts at the George Leach Centre, the men's and women's basketball games were played at the high school gym.

In the women's game, Niagara rode a 17-point performance by Kaitlyn McKenna to a 63-52 win over Algoma. Jamie Fong chipped in with 10 points. Roberta Reid led the way for Algoma with 15 points while Melissa Stumpo and Jen Cronin also hit double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

In the men's game, Chris Bauslaugh scored 19 points and Anderson St. Valle poured in 17 as Niagara defeated Algoma 79-55. Michael St. Rose picked up 14 points. Cory Glastier scored 15 points to lead all Algoma scorers, while Jarrell Hogan added 10 point.

On Saturday afternoon at Sault College, the Cougars defeated Niagara by an 85-70 score. Jean-Louis Outarra poured in 27 points for Sault College to lead all scorers. Andrew Turgeon picked up 13 points while Jeff Rennison and Nathan Whalen each chipped in with 12 points in the win.

Brandon Gracie led all Niagara scorers with 24 points.

In OCAA volleyball action, the Niagara women picked up a victory over Sault College with a three sets to one victory. After dropping the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-11, Sault College won the third set 25-22 before dropping the fourth set 25-23.
