The Sault College Cougars Men's basketball team got out of the gates quickly and never looked back as they built a 50-23 half time lead against the Lambton Lions before cruising to an 88-54 victory on Friday night.

Leading scorers for the Cougars were Jean Louis Ouattara with 26 and Nathan Whalen 18.

In Saturday action, the Cougars out-played Redeemer College from start to finish as the Cougars put together a tremendous offensive performance beating the Royals 125-72.

The Cougars began the second half with a 24-9 run after a 57-33 half time lead. All 13 players made the scoresheet and were lead by Jeff Rennison's 27 points. Jean Louis Ouattara, Ryan Vetrie, and Nathan Whalen all chipped in with 13 a piece.

By sweeping both teams, the Sault College Cougars have taken over sole possession of first place in the West division.

Coach Cory and the Cougars will be looking to clinch the division title this weekend when they hit the road for a first place showdown with the Fanshawe Falcons on Friday February 10th before travelling to Hamilton on Saturday to face the Mohawk Mountaineers.

*** SAULT COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL:

The Sault College ladies volleyball team beat Lambton College 3 games to 1 with game scores of 25-23, 25-8, 20-25, and 25-11.

Kelly Roussell led the Cougars with 12 points.

On Saturday, the ladies lost in straight sets to a tough Redeemer team 25-20, 25-13, 25-20. Kelly Roussell and Ashley Whitmill led the cougars with 6 points each.

The lady's will complete their regular season on the weekend when they meet the Fanshawe Falcons.

*** ALGOMA MEN GRAB A WIN:

The Algoma Univeristy College Thunderbirds men's basketball team picked up their first win of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association season on Friday night at home.

Cory Glaister drained 27 points and Jason Trinier added 24 in a 92-84 win over Redeemer.

On Saturday, Algoma fell 89-66 to Lambton College as Trinier led the Thunderbirds with 19 points and Jarrell Hogan added 13.

Meanwhile, the AUC women's basketball team dropped their lone game of the weekend 59-56 against Redeemer. Jessica King tossed in 22 points for Algoma while Jen Muio added 13.

This coming weekend, both Algoma teams visit Mohawk on Friday and Fanshawe on Saturday.
