Alberta's Martin Loses Second in a Row

HAMILTON -- Alberta’s Kevin Martin lost his second in a row here at the Tim Hortons Brier Monday morning, while both Ontario and Yukon/NWT continued their undefeated streaks.

Leading Saskatchewan’s Pat Simmons 7-6 coming home, Martin gave up a three-ender in the tenth end to lose 9-7. The loss drops Martin to 2-2, while Simmons improves to 3-1.

Yukon/NWT’s Jamie Koe continued his winning ways on Draw 6 Monday morning, dropping PEI’s Peter Gallant 7-3. The win improved Koe to a perfect 4-0, the same record as Ontario’s Glenn Howard. The loss dropped Gallant to 1-3.

Howard had a wild one against 2006 Olympic gold medallist Brad Gushue of Newfoundland. Gushue stole one in the tenth end to tie the game 6-6 and send it to an extra end.

But just when it looked like Gushue might pull one out of his hat, Howard slammed the door with an emphatic four in the extra end for a 10-6 win. It was the second straight extra end victory for Howard -- he also beat Manitoba in an extra end Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped Gushue to 1-3.

In the only other game Monday morning, BC’s Dean Joanisse improved to 2-2 with a 10-5 win over Northern Ontario’s Al Harnden. The loss dropped Harnden to 1-3.

The Brier resumes Monday afternoon when PEI's Gallant plays Quebec’s Pierre Charette, Manitoba’s Jeff Stoughton plays Yukon/NWT’s Koe, Alberta’s Martin plays Ontario’s Howard and Nova Scotia’s Mark Kehoe plays New Brunswick’s Paul Dobson.

The draw will be carried live on TSN beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET. ************************************************************
