North Stars whip Sudbury to clinch series

The Soo North Stars have advanced into the Great North Midget League semi-finals after beating up on the Sudbury Lockerby Nickel Capitals 10-1 on Thursday night.

The game four victory in Sudbury gives the North Stars a 3-1 win in the best-of-five quarterfinal series.

The North Stars will now await the results of the remaining series to determine an opponent although games one and two of the best-of-five semi-final series are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

The North Stars, who led by scores of 3-0 after one period and 7-0 after two, were paced offensively by Jake McClelland and Jason Bird with a goal and three assists each.

Tyler Gendron scored twice and added an assist while Derrick Coccimiglio also notched a pair. Paul Dupont scored once and added two assists while single goals went to Michael Quesnele, Mark Hoffman and Jake Reid.

Sudbury's Mike Anderighetti scored in the third period to break goaltender Ryan Dube's shutout attempt.
