North Stars take 2-0 series lead

The Soo North Stars have taken a commanding 2-0 Great North Midget League quarterfinal series lead over the New Liskeard Cubs.

On the opening weekend of the playoffs at the John Rhodes Community Centre, the regular season champion North Stars skated to a 5-2 win on Saturday before claiming a 6-2 victory on Sunday.

Josh Cerasuolo, Kurtis Travaglini, Micky Sartoretto, Kevin Smith, Anthony Colizza and Jarrett Burton scored in Sunday's win while Thomas Gravelines picked up the win in goal.

On Saturday, Travaglini led the charge with a pair of goals while singles went to Brett Thompson, Jerry Petingalo and Burton.

The North Stars now travel to New Liskeard on Friday for game three of the series at 8 p.m. Game four, if necessary, will be Saturday at 7 p.m. in New Liskeard.
