The Soo North Stars followed their Gold Puck Tournament win with a Great North Midget League series split with the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats over the weekend at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

After shutting out Rayside 6-0 on Saturday night, the North Stars fell 5-3 on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, Justin Hogsden picked up the shutout in goal while Kevin Smith, Luke O'Brien, Drew MacMillan, Mike Rivard and Matt Amadio scored once and set up another each. Kevin Closs also scored while Jerry Petingalo recorded two assists.

In just their second loss in regulation time on Sunday, MacMillan scored once and assisted on another. Chris Hales and Petingalo also scored.

The North Stars remain in first place in the GNML with a 21-2-0-1 record for 43 points. The Valley East Cobras are six points off the pace while Sudbury sits seven points behind.

Next home action for the North Stars will be the Steel City International Hockey Tournament January 4-7.

The next GNML action is December 27 and 28 in Sudbury against the Nickel Capital Wolves.
