North Stars Complete Regular Season – On Top

The Sault Ste. Marie North Stars have had a very successful Great North Midget League season for 2006-2007. With this past weekend being the final regular season games for the year, the North Stars find themselves in familiar territory having clinched first place for the fourth consecutive season.

The North Stars traveled to Sudbury January 31st and with their 5-3 win over the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves; clinched the top spot. This weekend the North Stars played a pair of games against thesecond place Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves; Saturday they won by a score of 4–2 and Sunday the locals won 7-4.

The best 3 out of 5 playoff match-ups are now complete and the North Stars will take on the eighth place New Liskeard Cubs in round one. The first game will be Saturday February 17 at 7:00pm, with game two Sunday at 1:00pm, both games at the John Rhodes Arena.

Games three and four will be held in New Liskeard, Friday February 23 at 8:00pm and Saturday February 24 at 7:00pm. Game five if necessary will be held Wednesday February 28 back in the Sault.

The other league match-ups are:

Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves (2nd Place) verses the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats (7th place)

Valley East Cobras (3rd place) verses Kirkland Lake (6th place)

North Bay Trappers (4th place) verses the Timmins Majors (5th place)
