North Stars score win, tie on northern swing

After playing to a 1-1 tie against the Kirkland Lake 87's, the Soo North Stars defeated the New Liskeard Cubs 6-2 on Sunday afternoon in Great North Midget League action.

Trevor McNutt scored three goals in the win over the Cubs while singles went to Derrek Coccimiglio, Mike Rivard and Brad DiCandia. Jerry Petingalo and Adam Pyymaki each set up a pair of goals.

On Saturday night, Brett Perlini scored the lone goal in the tie with the 87's.

The North Stars now carry a 14-1-1 record in GNML play for 29 points and a four point lead on the Sudbury Nickel Capitals for first place.

Next action for the North Stars is Thursday when they begin play at the Big Nickel Tournament in Sudbury.
