After a close 6-5 win over the Kapuskasing Flyers on Saturday night, the Soo North Stars unleashed a potent offensive attack on Sunday afternoon.

In the second game of the Great North Midget League weekend set at the John Rhodes Community Centre, the North Stars scored six times in the first period, seven in the second and six more in the third for a 17-1 win over the Flyers.

Jerry Petingalo led the attack with five goals while Matt Amadio and Micky Sartoretto scored three goals each. Kevin Mills potted a pair while singles went to Anthony Colizza, Drew MacMillan, Brett Thompson and Josh Cerasuolo.

Kurtis Travaglini recorded six assists while Mike Rivard and Amadio picked up four each. Thompson, Bronson Kovacs and Mills each added three helpers while Kevin Closs, Jarrett Burton and Cerasuolo had two each and Petingalo one.

On Saturday, Colizza scored the game winner midway through the third period on a penalty shot. Cerasuolo scored two goals while Travaglini, MacMillan and Burton had one each. Closs assisted twice while Colizza and Burton set up one each.

With the wins, the North Stars improve their first place record to 15-0-0-1 for 31 points and a five point lead over second place Valley East (12-3-2-0).

Next action for the North Stars is next weekend when they travel to Timmins for a pair.

The locals return home to the Rhodes on Saturday, November 25 when they play Rayside Balfour at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 26 at 1 p.m. when they play the Sudbury Nickel City Capitals.
