The Soo North Stars remain the road warriors of the Great North Midget League.

The locals extended their winning streak to 10 games and remained unbeaten in GNML play away from home after an 8-6 win over Valley East on Friday before blanking Rayside Balfour 6-0 on Saturday.

The victories improve the North Stars' first place record to 17-1-1-1 for 36 points and a 12 point lead over the second place New Liskeard Cubs, who have two games in hand.

Tyler Gendron paced the North Stars attack in Friday's win over the Valley East Cobras with two goals and two assists.

Brad DiCandia scored twice and setup another, Paul Dupont and Derrek Coccimiglio scored once and setup another each while Nick Minardi and Jake McClelland also scored. Travis O'Brien recorded the win in goal.

On Saturday in Elliot Lake, the North Stars recorded their sixth shutout of the season with a 6-0 blanking of the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats.

DiCandia scored twice while singles went to Dupont, Minardi and Matt Conway. Jason Bird added two assists. Ryan Dube picked up his second shutout of the season.

Gendron leads the GNML in scoring with 15 goals and 21 assists for 36 points. Dupont is second with 18-17-35 totals and Birds sits sixth at 9-17-26.

O'Brien remains the top rated goaltender with a 1.40 goals-against-average and four shutouts in ten games while Dube sits right behind with a 2.28 GAA in 10 contests.

The North Stars return home to host the Kapuskasing Flyers in a pair of games next weekend at the John Rhodes Community Centre. Saturday's game faces off at 7 p.m. while Sunday's tilt is slated for 1 p.m.
