The Soo North Stars opened their Great North Midget League semi-final series on Saturday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre with a big 12-1 win over the North Bay Trappers.

The Soo North Stars opened their Great North Midget League semi-final series on Saturday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre with a big 12-1 win over the North Bay Trappers.

The North Stars lead the best-of-five series 1-0 with game two scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Rhodes.

Brett Thompson, who also had three assists, Jerry Petingalo and Anthony Colizza paced the North Stars attack with two goals each.

Mike Rivard added a goal and four assists, Luke O'Brien and Matt Amadio each scored once and set up two others while Drew MacMillan picked up a goal and an assist. Kurtis Travaglini and Micky Sartoretto rounded out the scoring.
