North Stars maintain GNML lead

The Soo North Stars hold a seven point lead in the Great North Midget League standings after a win and a tie this weekend in North Bay.

On Saturday, the North Stars nipped the Trappers 4-3 before playing to a 4-4 draw on Sunday.

Kevin Closs scored once and set up another in Sunday's tie while single goals went to Matt Amadio, Drew MacMillan and Luke O'Brien. Thomas Gravelines made the start in goal.

O'Brien notched a goal and an assist in the win while MacMillan, Mike Rivard and Jarrett Burton scored once each. Closs picked up two assists while Justin Hogsden recorded the win in goal.

At 26-2-1-1 for 54 points, the North Stars sit seven points ahead of the Subury Nickel Capital Wolves, although Sudbury has two games in hand and the teams meet three times before the end of the regular season.

The North Stars are back in action on Wednesday on the road when they take on the Rayside-Balfour Sabrecats in Espanola.
