The Soo North Stars became the lone local team to advance to the championship game in the Steel City International Hockey Tournament.

On Sunday morning at the Steelback Centre, the North Stars blanked Great North Midget League rival Rayside Balfour 6-0 in the AAA midget semi-final.

The North Stars now advance to the championship game today at 3:30 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre against the Capital Centre Pride.

Capital Centre advanced with a 3-2 overtime win over the Vaughn Kings in the other semi final.

The Soo Bantam Greyhounds, a AAA Bantam Major team skating in the AAA Minor Midget division, almost made a bid for the title but fell short losing 3-1 to NXI Kalamazoo in the semi-finals on Sunday morning.
