North Stars into Gold Puck playoff round

The Soo North Stars continued to win at the Gold Puck Tournament in Waterloo Saturday morning defeating the Cambridge Hawks by a score of 6-0. Justin Hogsden was in goal for the shutout.

Scoring for the North Stars were: 1. Tyler Hawdon from Josh Cerasuolo at 14:04 of the first period. 2. Luke O'Brien from Tyler Hawdon at 8:18 of the second period on the power play. 3. Zac LaRue unnassisted at 4:04 of the second period while short handed. 4. Tanner Rutland from Tyler Evoy at 0:32 of the second period. 5. Zac LaRue from Luke O'Brien at 11:45 of the third period on the power play. 6. Tyler Hawdon from Tyler Evoy and Corey Jackson at 5:04 of the third period on the power play. The North Stars then defeated the Barrie Colts Saturday night in a nail biter by a score of 4-2.

Barrie scored at the 9:47 mark of the first period and the score stayed that way until the North Stars scored at the 10:54 mark of the third period to tie it at 1-1 a piece. The Colts scored at the 8:12 mark to go ahead 2-1.

The Colts then took a minor penalty and the Stars pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, scoring at the 2:38 mark of the third to tie the game at 2-2.

With the teams at full strength, the Stars won the face off and again pulled the goalie for the extra man and scored at the 0:40 mark to go ahead 3-2 before scoring on the empty net to win the game.

The Stars now advance to the semi-finals at 9:00am Sunday morning against North York. Scoring for the North Stars were: 1. Gregory Sartoretto from Bronson Kovacs and Zac LaRue at 10:54 of the third period. 2. Gregory Sartoretto from Bronson Kovacs at 2:38 of the third period on the power play. 3. Bronson Kovacs unnassisted at 0:40 of the third period. 4. David Quesnele unassisted at 0:06 of the third into an open net.
