North Stars capture two more GNML victories

The Soo North Stars took another two Great North Midget League wins over the weekend at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

On Sunday, Adam Pyymaki scored twice and added an assist to lead the North Stars past the Valley East Cobras 6-3.

Trevor McNutt, Tyler Liukkonen, Dan Vernelli and Brett Perlini also scored for the North Stars while Garret Hamel, Tyler Ryan and Alex Fiset countered for the Cobras. Vernelli and Liukkonen also added an assist each.

On Saturday, the North Stars handled the Sudbury Nickel Capitals 5-1. McNutt scored twice while a goal and an assist each went to Derrek Coccimiglio, Dylan King and Mike Rivard. Brad DiCandia recorded two assists. Taylor Pigeau scored the lone Sudbury goal.

The North Stars, who have now won five in a row, improve to 18-1-1 on the season and hold an eight point lead on Sudbury for first place in the GNML.

Next weekend, the NorthStars are on the road with games against Rayside Balfour on Saturday Nov. 26 and Sudbury on Sunday, Nov. 27.

Next home action is Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4 when they take on the Kapuskasing Flyers at Memorial Gardens. Game times are 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
