NORTH STARS BEGIN PLAYOFFS SATURDAY

The Soo North Stars will begin a best-of-five series with the Kapuskasing Flyers with games Saturday and Sunday nights. Saturday's game will be at Memorial Gardens, with Sunday's match set for the John Rhodes Community Centre.

The Soo North Stars will begin a best-of-five series with the Kapuskasing Flyers with games Saturday and Sunday nights. Saturday's game will be at Memorial Gardens, with Sunday's match set for the John Rhodes Community Centre. The North Stars, who finished in second place in the Great North Midget Hockey League with 22-10-4 record, are sparked by scoring leaders David Turco (26-26-52), Adam Combs (21-14-35) and Michael Sharp (15-18-33). They also feature standout goalie Michael Maulucci, who led the GNMHL with a 2.38 goals-against-average and six shutouts. Maulucci is one of three North Stars named to the league's first all star team. Trevor Solomon on defence and David Turco up front are the others. Maulucci was also been named the league's best goalie, Solomon its best defenceman, and Turco its most gentlemanly player
