The Soo North Stars have advanced out of the round robin and into the playoff round at the 2007 Telus Cup Central Regional Championships in Waterloo.

The Great North Midget League and Northern Ontario Hockey Association champions finished the round robin on a sour note but will gear up for a semi-final game on Saturday.

The semi-final is a tough task as the fourth place North Stars, who finished at 3-3, play the undefeated London Jr. Knights (6-0) at 3 p.m.

On Friday afternoon, the North Stars fell 5-2 to the Toronto Jr. Canadiens to close the round robin.

Micky Sartoretto and Matt Amadio each scored power play goals for the North Stars while Justin Hogsden took the loss in goal.

Should the North Stars capture the semi-final matchup, they will advance to Sunday's gold medal game at 1 p.m. A loss would spell a game for the bronze medal at 9 a.m.

The Richmond Hill Stars and Toronto Jr. Canadiens, each finishing at 4-2, will meet in Saturday's other semi-final at 11 a.m.

In action on Thursday, Jerry Petingalo scored the lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Richmond Hill after the team secured a playoff berth with a 4-3 win over the Gloucester Rangers. Jarrett Burton, Amadio, Brett Thompson and Mike Rivard scored in the win.
