If the Soo Greyhounds were looking for a late holiday gift in Saginaw, the Spirit weren't in a giving mood.

The Spirit, who dressed just 15 skaters, opened up a 1-1 game with two second period goals and skated to a 4-1 win over the Hounds on Thursday night.

After Patrick Asselin opened the scoring for Saginaw 4:25 into the game, Chris MacKinnon answered back for the Hounds with his second goal of the year a few minutes later on the power play to tie the score.

Nigel Williams on the power play and Ryan McDonough scored the second period goals for the Spirit while Jan Mursak added an insurance marker in the third period.

Matt Hache made the start in goal for the Hounds and stopped 30 of 34 shots in the loss. The Hounds fired 28 shots at Ryan Daniels.

The Greyhounds, who now play eight of their next nine games at home, are back in action on Friday as they open up a six-game homestand at the Steelback Centre against the Sarnia Sting at 7:30 p.m.
