Mosquito Sox return home from Leamington

The Sports Gold Mosquito Black Sox finished the Leamington Lakers Memorial Tournament with a win, a loss and a tie. Unfortunately the 3 points weren’t enough to get them into the semi-finals.

The Sports Gold Mosquito Black Sox finished the Leamington Lakers Memorial Tournament with a win, a loss and a tie.

Unfortunately the 3 points weren’t enough to get them into the semi-finals. After tying Windsor’s Walker Homesites 9-9 on Friday, the Sox defeated MacGregor 8-4 in the first of two games on Saturday. In the second game the Sox went down to the talented Essex team 8-7 in a very entertaining game.

In the MacGregor game, Owen Headrick threw 5 strikeouts over 2 innings. Headrick contributed to the offence with two doubles and three runs scored. Coty Anderson had seven strikeouts over 3 innings. Travis Quevillion went 3-3 on three singles. Anderson was named the game’s MVP.

In the Essex game, the Mosquito Black Sox rallied late in the game to score 6 runs over the last two innings take a 7-6 lead. Unfortunately, Essex battled back for the 8-7 victory in the bottom half of the final inning. Anderson and Headrick both went 3-4 with Anderson scoring three runs. Erik Paradis went 2-3 and started the last inning rally with a determined slide into first for his second hit of the game. Owen Headrick was the awarded game MVP for his efforts.

The Black Sox coaches were very proud of the team’s effort are looking forward to participating in the Wallaceburg tournament in two weeks.

In their first game of the tournament, the Sports Gold Mosquito Black Sox used some timely hits in the bottom of the last inning to pull out a 9-9 tie against Windsor's Walker Homesite's Hawks.

Eric Thornton was named player of the game for his 5 strike outs over 2 innings pitch. He also contributed to the offense with a double. Cody Yardanoff also struck out 5 over two innings and went 1 for 2.
