After a strong effort on Friday night against the Kitchener Rangers, the Soo Greyhounds were back to their old ways on Sunday night.

Just 48 hours after an improved effort saw them pull out a 4-3 shootout victory over Kitchener, the Hounds dropped a 4-2 decision at the hands of the Kingston Frontenacs.

The Greyhounds fell behind early as Tony Rizzi of the Frontenacs scored just 20 seconds into the opening period to put the visitors ahead.

The Greyhounds though, wasted little time in tying the game at one as Tyler Kennedy scored on the power play at 1:43 to knot the game up again.

Blake Pronk gave the Frontenacs the lead again, one they would never relinquish, at 16:08 when he beat Hounds goaltender Kyle Gajewski.

Just 54 seconds into the second period, the Frontenacs pulled further ahead when Chris Stewart beat Gajewski.

The Hounds managed to pull back to within one when Kyle Wharton scored shorthanded at 2:25 of the third period but an empty net goal with 51 second remaining by Connor Cameron sealed the 4-2 victory for the Frontenacs.

"You put yourself behind the eight ball right away," said coach Craig Hartsburg of getting behind early on. "If you step on the ice and you're not mentally ready to compete and battle, that's what happens."

Much like earlier losses, Hartsburg was no pleased with the work ethic of his team.

"I don't think we're working hard enough right now," Hartsburg added. "I've said that enough, and that's the simple answer but we don't work doing the little things right. We do it in spurts. It's unacceptable.

"When you're at a point like this it's not going to be one or two guys that's going to get this fixed," he continued. "It's going to have to be everybody. Everybody has to look at themselves in the mirror and say 'I can do more, I can play better.' If we don't do that, we're going to continue to frustrate ourselves."

Hartsburg was pleased with the idea that the Greyhounds have begun to improve on special teams.

"At one point this season our five-on-five play was really good but our special teams were poor," he said. "Now, we're at least competitive on special teams but five-on-five we're giving up too many scoring chances and not by numbers but by the quality of the scoring chances we're giving up."

The Greyhounds have three road games in the coming week as they travel to Peterborough on Friday night before meeting up with Kingston again on Friday night. Sunday, the Greyhounds will be in Ottawa to take on the 67's.

Next home action for the Greyhounds will be Wednesday, Nov. 9 when they host the Sarnia Sting.
