Sault Ste. Marie product Preston Mizzi was named the United Hockey League's Player of the Month for his performance in October with the Rockport Ice Hogs.
Mizzi, a former Soo Greyhound, scored nine goals in six games to lead his team from Illinois to perfect 6-0 start.
In the first month of the season, Mizzi finished with 11 points (9g, 2a) and a plus-4 rating. He scored goals in five of six games and had three multi-goal games, including a hat trick against the Missouri River Otters last Friday. The 24 year-old has three power play goals and one shorthanded goal.
Mizzi has scored as many goals as the entire Missouri River Otters team and beat out another former Hound in Chad Woollard, who plays for the Quad City Mallards, for the award.
