The struggles continued for the Soo Black Sox midget team on Tuesday night.

After a 1-3 weekend at a tournament in Midland, Michigan, the Black Sox returned home and dropped an 18-3 decision, in five innings, to the Sault, Michigan-based E.U.P. Travelers.

The Black Sox fell behind 3-0 in the opening inning and couldn’t recover as the Travelers scored in all but one inning. The Travelers tacked on three runs in the second inning, six in the fourth and six more in the fifth.

Kevin Killips led the way for the Travelers offensively with three singles and a walk in four at-bats. Killips also scored three runs in the win. Keane Cairns chipped in with three singles and three runs scored as well.

Collin McAuley stroked a single for the Black Sox in the loss.

The Black Sox were initially scheduled to face Alpena in a double-header on Wednesday but Alpena was forced to pull out due to what the team said was a lack of players that could make the trip to Sault Ste. Marie.

Instead the Black Sox will practice on Thursday morning in preparation for the Lynn Auto Parts Invitational Tournament, held in Sault, Michigan on the weekend. The Black Sox will face the Marquette Blues in their opening game of the tournament, scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday morning in the Michigan Sault.

The eight-team tournament will feature both the Travelers and Black Sox along with entries from Alpena, Mancelona, Newberry, Marquette, Sanford and Ishpeming.
