The three-day Mealey Classic Alpine Ski Race wrapped up at the Searchmont Resort on the weekend. The annual event hosted by the Searchmont Ski Runners concluded with a Giant Slalom race on Sunday.

The annual event hosted by the Searchmont Ski Runners concluded with a Giant Slalom race on Sunday.

Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick, a Northern Development Team member, captured a medal on the final day with a bronze in the women's open category.

Gillian Scott, a Sudbury native who trains out of Searchmont with the Development team, took the gold medal while Thunder Bay's Mindy Blumberg captured the silver.

In the open men's group, John Zinster, a SSR racer from the Michigan Sault, took a silver medal while teammate George Payne finish sixth.

North Bay's Adam Buckham captured gold, Georgian Peaks' Richard Long took the silver and Marquette's Daniel Menze grabbed a bronze.

In the K2 women's division for 13 and 14 year-old skiers, SSR's Meghan DiAngelo took the bronze medal while teammate Nicole Gignac also took a bronze in the K1 category for 11 and 12 year-old racers.

In the men's K1, Devin Labelle topped the Ski Runners with a fourth place effort.

*** SATURDAY:

In another giant slalom event on Saturday, Scott claimed the bronze medal behind gold medalist Blumberg and Thunder Bay teammate Ashley Leat-Seguin. In K2, DiAngelo finished fourth while Meaghan Horbatuk claimed a bronze medal in the K1 group.

In men's, Buckham again captured gold ahead of Lond and Thunder Bay's Timothy Zawacki, who took the bronze. In the boys K2, Graeme Hutchison finished sixth while Iain Hutchison finished forth in the K1 group.

*** FRIDAY:

In the Super Giant Slalom event on Friday, the Georgian Peaks club dominated the field claiming 14 of the 18 available medals.

Scott finished third overall in the women's category while Fitzpatrick placed fourth. Gignac took a bronze in a K1 division race.

Georgian Peaks' Shannon Campbell finished first overall and teammate Daniela Gysler second.

On the men's side, Georgian's Richard Long finished first overall followed by Menze and Georgian's Richard Lovat.
