The 2006 Mayor's Cup hockey championships is now in the books as Saturday night saw the City Men's Hockey League crown champions in both the 33+ Division and the Open Division.

The 33+ Division saw Mr. Transmission score three times in the third period to skate to a 5-3 victory over Stitch King/Weedman, while Assante/Mr. Transmission scored an upset of Foggy Notions to win the Open Division crown.

In the 33+ Division Final, Stitch King/Weedman entered the final undefeated, only to suffer their first loss of the tournament in the most important game.

Mr. Transmission opened the scoring with a pair of first period goals courtesy of Ron Sartor and Doug Laprode.

Tony Greco got Stitch King/Weedman on the board late in the second period to cut the lead in half, only to see Pat Mizzi score early in the third period to restore the two-goal cushion. Ken Dickenson pulled Stitch King to within one but goals by Sartor and Rick Evans late in the third period sealed the victory for Mr. Transmission.

The Mr. Transmission title is the fifth for the team since the 33+ Division was intorduced to Mayor's Cup action in 1997.

In the Open Division final, Adam Dunseath opened the scoring for Assante/Mr. Transmission just 34 seconds into the opening period. Terry Chikoski tied the score for Foggy Notions only to see Laine Burton restore the lead shortly thereafter.

A pair of third period goals, by Greg Mizzi and Ken Reed, sealed a 3-1 victory for Assante/ Mr. Transmission and the Open Division title. The win came on the heels of the underdog club scoring an upset win over the Clarica/Blueliners Bulls in the semi-final.

The chippy championhip affair between Assante/ Mr. Transmission and Foggy Notions saw a quality goaltending performance from Michael Maulucci, who continued to turn aside the Foggy Notions shooters time and again.
