NHL players join in the TPS Tribute to Hockey Moms to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society

Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, March 13, 2007 – On March 16, 17, and 18th, 2007, Marty Turco of the Dallas Stars will be hitting the ice with a pink hockey stick to support the fight against breast cancer as part of the 2nd Annual TPS Tribute to Hockey Moms.

Turco, originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, will be one of many NHL players using a special edition TPS Hockey pink stick featuring the pink ribbon - the internationally recognized symbol in the fight against breast cancer. The sticks will be used in practices, pre-game warm-ups and games throughout the weekend.

Following the tribute weekend, the limited edition hockey sticks will be autographed by the NHL players and auctioned on eBay Canada.

Funds raised will support breast cancer research through the NHL/NHLPA's Hockey Fights Cancer program and its Canadian charity partner, the Canadian Cancer Society.

"The Canadian Cancer Society is thrilled to be the Canadian charity beneficiary of the 2nd Annual TPS Tribute to Hockey Moms," says Dr. Barbara Whylie, CEO, Canadian Cancer Society. "With the ongoing efforts of committed supporters like TPS Hockey, the NHL and NHLPA, the Canadian Cancer Society will continue to support Canada's best breast cancer research, moving us ever closer to the day when no woman need fear a diagnosis of breast cancer."

During last year's TPS Tribute to Hockey Moms, players throughout the league embraced the campaign, recognizing the important role their own mothers played in their careers while also taking the opportunity to help make a real impact in a disease that touches the lives of so many women.

"I couldn't believe the reaction from last year with all players jumping on board, but then I realized NHL players never forget where they came from or how they got there," explains Wayne Gretzky, coach and owner of the Phoenix Coyotes. "My mother would have been very proud."

In addition to the player-used stick auction, TPS Hockey will make their special edition pink sticks available at retail locations across the country.

Hockey players at all levels will be able to purchase their own pink sticks in order to help raise funds in support of the fight against breast cancer.

TPS Hockey will donate five percent of the proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Society for each stick sold.
