Local volleyball team spikes competition to capture bronze at provincials

Sault Ste. Marie's Steel City Ignite Volleyball 16UG Team walked away from the Ontario Volleyball Association Championships with a bronze medal.

During the event, which was held over the weekend in Waterloo, the team remained undefeated during the two days of pool play and advanced to the semi-final competition, winning seven consecutive games. They finished strong by defeating the London Volleyball Club, bringing home the bronze medal!

Sault Ste. Marie's Steel City Ignite Volleyball 16UG Team won the bronze medal at the Ontario Volleyball Association Championships in Waterloo, Ont., from April 5 to 7, 2024. 

The Steel City Ignite 16UG Blaze remained undefeated during the two days of pool play and advanced to the semi-final competition, winning seven consecutive games. They finished strong by defeating the London Volleyball Club, bringing home the bronze medal!

Head Coach Kara Paat and Assistant Coach Kaitlin Antler and Tiana Alton of the Steel City Ignite 16UG Blaze couldn’t be prouder, ”These athletes worked hard all season. The competition was tough, but they pushed themselves, supported each other, and earned the bronze medal together as a team! We look forward to cheering on the rest of the Steel City Ignite teams as they get ready to travel and play in their divisions!”

They are the first of many teams representing the Sault from Steel City Ignite Volleyball Club who are headed to Ontario Volleyball Association Championships in Waterloo or Ottawa to compete in their respective age division.
