Local swimmer competing at second Olympic trials

Paige Banton is slated to compete in a pair of events at Toronto competition

Canada's top swimmers are in Toronto this week taking part in the Olympic and Paralympic trials — and a local swimmer is among the competitors.

Sault Ste. Marie's Paige Banton is among the over 800 swimmers at the event.

Banton, a former member of the Sault Surge locally who is now swimming competitively at Marshall University in the U.S., is at the meet with her coach from Marshall, Ian Walsh.

Banton is competing in the 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke events.

The 100m breaststroke is scheduled for Tuesday with the 200m breaststroke scheduled for Friday.

Preliminaries are scheduled daily at 9:30 a.m. with swimmers looking to earn spots in the finals at 6 p.m.

Banton was the subject of a recent feature story on SooToday. You can read it HERE.
