Sault resident Domenic Sacco has joined the scouting staff of the Ontario Hockey League Owen Sound Attack, SooToday.com has learned. Sacco, who scouted for the Toronto St. Michael's Majors for two years, becomes the first-ever Sault-based scout for the Owen Sound franchise. While with St. Mike's, Sacco was responsible for the selection of defenceman Drew Fata, now a 19-year old stalwart with the Majors. Fata, a National Hockey League draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, is a Sault native. Mike Futa, who was appointed Owen Sound general manager earlier this summer, is responsible for the hiring of Sacco. Futa was an assistant coach at St. Mike's when Sacco was scouting for the Majors. Besides the Greyhounds, Owen Sound is the fourth OHL team to employ a Sault-based scout. The others are the Guelph Storm with John Davison, the Plymouth Whalers with Mike Oliverio, and St. Mike's with Don Kurylo. Toots Kovas served as the Greyhounds' local scout last season.
