In March, she said her goal was a podium finish if she were chosen to represent Canada.

Sault Ste. Marie’s Holly Lasante did just that recently as a member of the Canadian team at the World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Sweden.

Fresh off a silver medal performance at the Canadian nationals in the spring, Lasante told SooToday at the time, “This year if I make it on Team Canada, I’d really like to hit the podium. That would be my big goal.”

Not only did she hit the podium in Sweden, Lasante earned gold in the deadlift and fourth in her weight class overall.

Lasante was one of two Canadians who competed in the 63-kilogram Master 1 class in Sweden.

2019 marked the third time Lasante had the opportunity to represent Canada on an international stage, having done so during the World Classic Powerlifting Championships in 2017 and 2018.
