Academy player tries out for Toronto FC Soccer

SUFA announces formation of a U-17 Boys Soccer team to compete in Showcase Tournaments in the US and Academy system in Ontario

Last week, Sault United Football Academy had a player try out for the Toronto FC Academy.

Brett Lewis (15, pictured) of SUFA, recently had a tryout for Toronto FC and their Academy program.

He participated well, scoring three goals during the scrimmage he played.

Brett is expected to hear back in the near future, regarding a call back for possible further training.

Brett also tried out for the Bryst Academy Team in Toronto, making the cut.

Brett joins a number of other SUFA players who have also made Bryst teams, including Jenni Richardson, Daniella Febbraro, Taylor Barker, Noah Hodson and Chris Howe.

This coming weekend, 16 players from the SUFA Academy are travelling to Toronto for training and tryout sessions with the Bryst Academy.

Bryst is the top Academy in Canada, placing players into the National and Provincial programs, along with scholarship opportunities and Pro contracts in Europe and MLS.

SUFA players have been invited to participate in tours in Europe in the past two years.

This past year, Daniella and Jenni have participated with the Bryst Women’s team in a major Showcase Tournament in New Jersey.

New Competitive Team (U-17 Boys)

SUFA is pleased to announce a competitive team for boys at the U-17 level.

With no competitive option for boys at the U-17 level in the community, SUFA is providing that option.

All boys born in 1996 or later are welcome to come and try out.

The team will participate in an indoor tournament in April, in either Detroit or Marquette.

During the summer the team will train regularly and compete in a number of showcase tournaments in the US and Inter-Academy competition in southern Ontario.

The objective is to prepare players for University level soccer and provide top quality coaching and competition.

SUFA is excited about this new program as it continues our mandate to develop young soccer players in the community and provide access to high levels of competition and coaching.

Interested players will find information on our web site.

They should contact the Academy prior to the tryout.

It will be held on Sunday morning, February 10 from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at the West End Community Centre.

Please bring cleats and shin pads.
