Legion Hap Ki Do youngsters throw it down at Michigan tournament

Brooke and Jase Irwin of the Sault’s Legion Hap Ki Do School travelled to Cheboygan, Michigan and performed well in the Straits Area Martial Arts Championship held Saturday, Feb. 10.

Jase Irwin won gold in youth sparring while sister Brooke placed first in forms, second in weapons, second in grappling, second in point sparring and third in continuous sparring.

The Legion Hap Ki Do team is now preparing for tournaments in Elliot Lake, Sudbury and Sault Michigan over the next few months.  

“Thanks to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 our team is able to train at our temporary location at the Marconi Cultural Events Centre, but we look forward to going back to our new Legion building soon,” wrote Rudy Timmerman, Legion Hap Ki Do coach and Branch 25 public relations officer in a release.

It is anticipated that Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25’s new office and apartment building - with a new space for Legion Hap Ki Do - will open by June 2024.
