SSMAC Swimmers In Fast Lane

A seventeen-member contingent of the Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club enjoyed a successful weekend at the East Side Mario's Invitational (Long Course) swim meet in Sudbury.

Leading the way was Brian Lee competing in the boys' 13-14 age category. Lee returned with seven gold medals, after finishing first in all of his races. (50-metre, 100-metre, 200-metre, 400-metre freestyle events, as well as 100-metre and 200-metre backstroke and 400-metre individual medley).

Competing in the girls' 10 and under age category, Kalen Critchley won silver in the 50-metre butterfly and in the 100-metre freestyle events. Critchley placed third in three additional races.

Twelve- year old Michael Lawrence found second spot in the 100-metre butterfly and the 800-metre freestyle events. Lawrence had a third place finish in the 50-metre butterfly.

Tyler Smith, 10, won silver in the three races (100-metre backstroke, 50-metre butterfly and the 200-metre individual medley). Smith placed third in two other races.

Steven Lee, age 11, won bronze in the 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke events.

Sarah Theodossiou, competing in the girls'13-14 age category placed third in the 800-metre freestyle. In the same division, Julia Turgeon raced to a third place finish in the 100-metre backstroke and had five additional top-eight placements.

Chenoa Naylor, age 10, returned with two third place results, as well as six top-eight finishes.

Racing in the boys'11-12 age category, Shane Rock won a bronze medal in the 50-metre backstroke.

Erin Lee, age 10, returned with a top-eight placement in all of her races. Competing in the same age category, teammate Erin Theodossiou had a top-eight finish in the 200-metre backstroke.

Andrew Dipsell, age 14, placed fifth in the 100-metre breaststroke and had two additional eighth place finishes.

Other swimmers to produce excellent results and personal best time swims include: Logan Naccarato, Sarah Wright, Courtney Dipsell, Matthew Dipsell, and Kristjan Luik.

The next competition for SSMAC is the North Bay Invitational the weekend of May 25-27, 2007.
