Lakers held scoreless in Buckeyes sweep

The Ohio State hockey team completed its weekend sweep of Lake Superior State on Saturday night when it beat the Lakers 4-0 in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action.

The Ohio State hockey team completed its weekend sweep of Lake Superior State on Saturday night when it beat the Lakers 4-0 in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action.

Mathieu Beaudoin gave the Buckeyes (4-5-1 overall, 3-4-1 CCHA) the lead at 4:40 of the first period. Kyle Hood and Matt Waddell assisted on the power-play goal.

OSU's Tyson Strachan scored at 12:25 of the second period. Johann Kroll and Beaudoin assisted on the goal.

Bryce Anderson increased Ohio State's lead to three at 18:22 of the second period. Waddell scored a power-play goal less than a minute later to take the score to 4-0.

Lake Superior State (4-5-3 overall, 3-5-2 CCHA) freshman goaltender Vince Wheeler replaced Jeff Jakaitis in the third period. Wheeler stopped all eight shots that he faced in his first game as a Laker.

The Buckeyes out-shot the Lakers 29 to 27.

Lake Superior State was 0-for-8 on the power play for the game and 0-for-10 on the weekend. Ohio State was 2-for-10 on the power play.

Dave Caruso picked up the win for the Buckeyes. Caruso stopped all 27 shots for the night and all 56 of the Lakers' shots on the weekend. The Lakers' winless streak against the Buckeyes increased to 13 games.

The Lakers resume home action Nov. 25-26 when they return to Sault Ste. Marie to play Robert Morris University for a non-conference series. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. Friday night at Taffy Abel Arena.

Ohio State shut out the Lake Superior State hockey team 3-0 on Friday night in Central Collegiate Hockey action at Value City Arena. The Buckeyes lengthened their unbeaten streak against the Lakers to 12-0.

Ohio State (3-5-1 overall, 2-4-1 CCHA) and Lake Superior State (4-4-3 overall, 3-4-2 CCHA) skated to a scoreless first period.

At 15:56 of the second period, Ohio State's John Dingle gave his team the lead when he scored a goal assisted by Mathieu Beaudoin and Johann Kroll.

Kenny Benard's goal at 11:22 of the third period extended OSU's lead to 2-0. Beaudoin picked up his second assist of the night.

Beaudoin picked up his first goal of the year at 17:15 of the third period. Bernard and Andrew Schembri drew assists.

Ohio State out-shot the Lakers 41-27.

The Lakers were 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Buckeyes were 0-for-3.

Goaltender Dave Caruso recorded the win for Ohio State. Junior Jeff Jakaitis made 38 saves for the Lakers.
