A 40-lap feature race in the Modified Division highlighted a full racing program at Laird International Raceway on Thursday night.

It was nearly a clean sweep for the Modified Division point leader as Jordan Sims followed up a heat race win by winning the feature race. The Modified feature saw 40-laps with the winner coming away with $500. Sims managed to hold off Dave Slingsby and Dennis Uhlman to win the prize. Slingsby held off Sims and Joe Addison in the first heat race while Sims topped Rick Ellis and Uhlman in the second heat.

In the Late Model Division Donnie Varcoe Jr. picked up his first victory as he held off a charging Michael Gold and Cory Furkey for the win. Varcoe won the first heat race over Jeremy Van Hoek and Jerry Artuso before winning a shortened second heat over Gold and Van Hoek. The second heat was shortened after Paul Seabrook crashed his No. 30 car into the sand leading into turn three. Seabrook won the fast car dash.

John Hamilton opened the Factory Stock heat races by holding off Bill See and Chris Jones to win the first heat. See then returned the favour by holding off Hamilton and Jones in the second heat. Parker Brockelbank then made a late charge as he won the feature race over See and Hamilton.

In the Stock four Division, Cody MacLean held off brothers Adam and John Gardener to win the first feature race of the night. It was a big field of Stock fours on the night which meant the division was divided up into a pair of groups for their heat races. After qualifying, the division was split into a fast and slower group. George Haldenby and Josh Letalien each won a heat race in the slower group while Dave King and Jason Harrington won the other two heat races.

Laird now looks ahead to four more race nights including an added day of racing on Saturday, Sept. 9. The afternoon will kick off with qualifying and racing and the season will end off with a demolition derby.
