Laird International Raceway has postponed Thursday's opening night action until Saturday.

Qualifying is scheduled for 3 p.m. with racing to start at 4 p.m.

The following statement was issued by LIR citing a number of reasons for postponing the races:

************************************************************

Laird Raceway has decided to postpone the races Scheduled on Thursday May 26th until Saturday May 28th. Time trials are scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm racing at 4:00 pm.

The reasons are as follows:

1)Rain is anticipated on Thursday (and possibly Saturday too, but that can change). See the weather links on the home page.

2) There was work being done out at that track today and the decision was made that with the open fields and wind it was still just too cold. It is chilly in the stands and would be hard on the fans and the pit crews.

3) Experience has told us that if the season does not start off right it takes 4 to 5 weeks to get attendance up and things running nicely.

4) Saturday afternoon is a better time for the younger race fans that have to attend school on Friday (and for some of the older crowd that have to work too).

We are sorry for the inconvenience. We will eventually get the race season started and will reschedule any missed races to ensure we get a full 17 night season in. Thursdays remain our regular race night, then make up days will be Saturdays for the month of June, and may change to Monday nights later in the season.

We are as excited to get things going as you may be, but we just want to start the season off at 100%!!!

Sincerely, Laird International Raceway Management
