Laird action heats up

Rick Leonard is in a heated battle with Cory Furkey for the points title in the Late Model Division at Laird International Raceway. Thanks to a strong performance on Thursday night, Leonard managed to take the points lead over Furkey.

Rick Leonard is in a heated battle with Cory Furkey for the points title in the Late Model Division at Laird International Raceway.

Thanks to a strong performance on Thursday night, Leonard managed to take the points lead over Furkey. Leonard won both heat races to make the jump. Leonard also finished fourth in the feature. Paul Seabrook took the Late Model feature over Rod Bolduc and Furkey, who drove Nick Guerriero’s No. 4 car for the race. Bolduc won the dash. Donnie Varcoe was in solid shape late in the race, running second, before engine troubles forced him to the pits.

John Hamilton won the Factory Stock feature over John Fragale and Mike Corbett. Hamilton also took the second heat race over Fragale while Fragale held off Chris Jones in the first heat. Rita-Ann Varcoe won the Dash.

In the Modifieds, a late pass by Dennis Uhlman to take over the lead from Rick Ellis and the veteran driver never relinquished the lead, holding off Mav MacDonald and David Slingsby for the win. Nick Kozak won a heat race and also won the dash while Kevin Oicle also won a heat race.

Tristan Anderson took home top spot in the A Main feature race in the Stock Four Division. Chris Humphrey and Tyler Parsons rounded out the top three. Heat race winners included Humphrey, Kyle Jarrett, Anderson, and John Gardner while Jack Lannigan and Dave King edged out Morgan Kent to earn the final two spots in the A Main feature by finishing first and second in the B Main feature.

Action continues at LIR next Thursday night with qualifying set for 6 p.m. and racing set for 7 p.m. Following the action will also be a demolition derby.
