Korah, St. Mary's cruise to basketball sweeps

The Korah Colts and St. Mary's Knights cruised to victories in both junior and senior division play on Thursday in Girls High School Basketball League action.

At Korah, the Colts opened the day with a 53-31 victory in the junior division before rolling to a 51-18 win in senior over the White Pines Wolverines.

Sarah Levesque scored 17 points and Jaclyn Cummings 14 for the Colts in senior while the junior Colts were paced by Jessica Bauer with 14 points and Kayla Odorizzi with 11. Brittany McClelland replied with 12 points for White Pines in junior.

At St. Mary's, the Knights used 20 points from Kathleen Thorburn and 11 from Kira Favaro in a 62-20 win over the Bawating Braves. Amanda Whitmell led the Braves with 12 points.

In junior, Beth Gignac scored 11 points and Katie Babcock eight for the Knights in a 41-19 victory. Stephanie Leask topped the Braves with six points.

In a single senior contest at Mount St. Joseph College, the Royals scored a 51-38 win over the Sir James Dunn Eagles on the strength of 19 points from Vanessa Chaimbrone.

Miranda Chaimbrone and Alex King added 11 points each for the winners while Stephanie Davies replied with 13 points and Renata Thelland 12 for the Eagles.
