Knights win girls soccer NOSSA title (update)

Sudbury was the site as the St. Mary’s Knights took the AAA girls soccer final on Friday.

The Knights beat Sudbury’s MacDonald Cartier 5-0 in the title game.

St. Mary’s advanced to the final thanks to a 6-0 win over St. Charles of Sudbury in the semifinal while MacDonald Cartier beat Widdifield of North Bay in the other AAA semifinal.

In AA action, Superior Heights dropped a 5-2 decision to Confederation (Sudbury) in semifinal action.

White Pines lost to Marymout of Sudbury 2-0 in the A division.

The boys NOSSA soccer tournament was held in North Bay on Friday and a pair of Sault Ste. Marie schools came away with titles.

St. Mary’s won the AAA senior boys title after a 3-0 win over St. Joseph-Scollard Hall of North Bay while Superior Heights won the AA senior title by beating St. Charles 3-0.

St. Mary’s got to the AAA final with an 8-2 win over Algonquin (North Bay). Superior Heights beat Widdifield 3-2 on penalty kicks to advance to the AA final.

St. Mary’s also won the AAA junior title. The Knights beat St. Joseph-Scollard Hall 3-0.

In the AA junior event, Korah fell in the semifinal, dropping a 4-1 decision to Widdifield.
