Not even a long bus ride or a new set of rules could slow down the St. Mary's Knights senior football team.

Taking their northern dominance down south, the NOSSA champion Knights hammered Thunder Bay's Westgate Tigers 52-10 on Thursday in the Northern Bowl at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The Northern Bowl is a part of the OFSAA bowl championship series.

Playing three down football instead of the four down rules used by NOSSA didn't faze the Knights as their offense continued to role and their defense held their opponents in check.

Jeff Greco ran for four touchdowns and 100 yards on nine carries while Mark DeVuono caught a 33 yard touchdown pass from quarterback John Mullin.

Mitchell Currier ran back an interception 25 yards for a touchdown and Jason Amadio picked off another for 38 yard major score. Ricky Lamon booted a 15 yard field goal.

"We were great on offense and outstanding on defense," said Knights defensive coordinator Andy Starzomski. "Everyone played well and did what they had to do to beat Thunder Bay.

"They were definitely the biggest team in size that we have played this year. They were even bigger than White Pines. Even with the the three down rules, they stayed with their running game and never really tried to go through the air on us."

Mullin finished the game by completing 11 of 16 passes for 211 yards and one touchdown.

"It's funny the way the game went. Maybe they were afraid to throw against us, I don't know, but we were waiting for them to open it up but they never did," said Starzomski.

Further details will be added.
