Knights capture St. Clair Invitational

The St. Mary's Knights Senior Girls basketball team captured the 5th annual St. Clair College Invitational Tournament this past weekend in Windsor.

In the first game, the Knights defeated Windsor's FJ Brennan (Windsor) 45-33. Kathleen Thorburn had a big game scoring 18 points and Kira Favaro, who had a great all around performance, chipped in 16.

In game two, SMC handled Sarnia St. Christopher 45-25. Favaro led all scorers with 14 points, while Thorburn and Stephanie Colizza had nine each.

In the championship game, the Knights were up against Windsor Herman and claimed the title with a 41-35 victory. Thorburn once again was outstanding and scored 11 points, while Brittany Denneny, who dominated the boards all weekend, contributed 10. Colizza chipped in with eight points and Vanessa Chaimbrone added six.

Kathleen Thorburn was rewarded for her excellent performance by being named Tournament MVP. While her cousin, Stephanie Colizza, who had a great weekend offensively and defensively, was named to the all-star team.
