Junior Knights win Trojan Classic

The St. Mary's Knights junior girls basketball team won the Trojan Classic tournament over the weekend in North Bay.

In their first game on Friday, the Knights defeated Algonquin 45-20. Meagan Delfre was the game's high scorer with 11 points while Melissa MacDonald had 10. Katie Pietrzakowski chipped in with eight points.

In game two of pool play, St. Mary's defeated Elliot Lake in a one sided game 64-8. Brianna Denneny, Stephanie Morin and Tessa Kasch led the team with 10 points each. Delfre had six points.

In a cross over game on Saturday, the Knights defeated West Ferris 24-12. Beth Gignac led SMC with nine points and Melissa MacDonald added five.

In the championship game, St. Mary's defeated L'Horizon 39-21. Game MVP Delfre scored 15 points and Denneny added five. Gignac and Kaitlin Morin chipped in four points each.

Gignac and Kasch were both named to the All-Star team while honorable mention goes to Shelby MacDonald who played outstanding defence all weekend.

Coaches include Shauna Conway, Terry Colizza and Anthony D'Ettorre.
