The Soo Junior Greyhounds extended their league-high winning streak to 14 games Sunday night at Memorial Gardens with a 6-4 victory over the defending NOJHL champion Rayside Balfour Sabrecats.

The first-place Junior Hounds broke the game open with a three goal second period but the Sabrecats fought back in the third with a three-goal period of their own to make the game close. The win was the Junior Hounds' third straight over the Sabrecats after dropping their opening matchup 5-1 in Chelmsford in mid-September.

The Junior Hounds received goals from six different players in the win as Barnabus Birkeland, Joey Coccimiglio -- who also chipped in with an assist - Luke Stellmach; Matt West; Jacob King and Mark Evans tallied the markers.

The Junior Hounds also received a strong performance from league scoring leader Jeff Rainville, who picked up three assists in the win.

Shane Bellini got the start for the Junior Hounds and stopped 23 shots in the win. Expectations were that former Soo Greyhound goaltender Brock McGillis may have gotten the start in this game after signing with the Sabrecats earlier this week, but McGillis is reportedly moving to play in the Quebec Hockey League.

The Junior Hounds finished the month of November with a perfect 10-0 record. The perfect month included two victories over the fourth-place Sabrecats, two more over second place North Bay Sky Hawks and another victory over the third-place Sudbury Northern Wolves.

Next action for the Junior Hounds is Tue. Dec. 3 when the same Rayside Balfour Sabrecats pay another visit to Memorial Gardens for a 7:30 p.m. start.
