A long road trip was a successful one for the Great North Midget League’s Soo Jr. Greyhounds.

With games against the New Liskeard Cubs and the Kapuskasing Flyers, the Jr. Greyhounds returned home with five of a possible six points from three weekend games.

On Friday night, Devin Mauro had a pair of goals and assisted on another as the Jr. Greyhounds beat New Liskeard 8-5.

Ty Zachary also had three points with a goal and two assists for the Jr. Greyhounds.

Adam Barone and Michael Chaffay added a goal and an assist while Calem Mangone, Dylan Forsyth, and Ethan Esposito also scored.

Zachery Lajoie and Tyson Bradford had a goal and an assist each for New Liskeard.

Matt Hill, Benjamin White, and Andrew Rowell also scored.

Jackson Buffam and Carter Richmond assisted on two goals each for the Cubs.

Scheduled to face Kapuskasing Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, Saturday’s game was moved to Sunday morning after ice issues at the arena.

In the early game on Sunday, Mauro scored a pair of goals while Zachary picked up a pair of helpers in a 3-0 Jr. Greyhounds win over the Kapuskasing.

Gavin Disano picked up the shutout in goal while Esposito had the other Sault goal.

In the late game on Sunday, Patrick Gagnon had the shootout winner as Kapuskasing rebounded for a 2-1 victory.

Dawson Liklater had the lone Flyers goal in regulation while Zachary scored for the Jr. Greyhounds.

The Jr. Greyhounds come out of the weekend with a 23-4-2-1 (win-loss-overtime loss-shootout loss) record and a six-point lead over the Flyers atop the GNML standings.

The Jr. Greyhounds return to action on Feb. 14 with a game at home against Kapuskasing.
