Jr. Cougars win bronze in Hamilton

The Sault Junior Cougars Major Midget boys basketball team followed their silver medal win in Cambridge in March with a bronze medal at The Blessed Sacrament Tournament in Hamilton over the weekend.

The Cougars finished the round robin with a perfect 3-0 record before losing a hard fought game in the semifinals and then finishing with a win in the bronze medal game.

In game one, the Cougars beat the Collingwood Trailblazers 67-49. Chris Hunt hit for 21 points for the Cougars and Deno Bergamin chipped in 14.

The second game saw the Cougars win easily over the Guelph CYO 70-38. Hunt led with 20 points while Taylor Hiddleston and Josh Findlay both added 10.

Game three was a much closer match pitting the Cougars against the host team, the Blessed Sacrament Yellow Jackets. The Cougars finished on top 63-60 with Hunt draning 19 points and Findlay and Sean Bissonette each adding 11.

In the semifinals, the Cougars lost to the Barrie Royals 62-52. Hunt was again the top scorer with 22 points and Hiddleston chipped in nine.

In the bronze medal game, the Cougars beat the Windsor Magic 36-33 as Hunt finished with 17 points and Cameron Hewgill eight.

The Yellow Jackets were the winners of the Gold Medal, beating the Barrie Royals in the finals.

The Cougars travel to Ottawa this weekend for the Ontario Cup, the Ontario Basketball Association's provincial championships.
