In a decision that protects his NCAA eligibility, Jordan Mayer has decided not to attend the Soo Greyhounds’ training camp and play Tier 2 junior hockey during the upcoming season.

The choice leaves open the possibility that the talented teenager could ultimately pick US college hockey over Major Junior.

The Soo Greyhounds have issued the following news release.

************************* The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club is pleased to announce that they have reached contract agreements with both of their third-round selections from the 2007 OHL Priority Selection.

Forward Michael Fine [shown] and goaltender Bryce O'Hagan have inked OHL contracts with the Greyhounds and will be in Sault Ste. Marie looking to earn a roster spot when training camp opens on Wednesday, August 29.

Fine, a native of North York, Ontario played this past season with the Mississauga Minor Midgets where he tallied 32 goals and 54 assists good for 86 points.

Should the 5’11”, 200-lb forward not fill one of the Hounds forward positions he has committed to stay in Sault Ste. Marie and play for their affiliate franchise, the Soo Thunderbirds.

O’Hagan, a member of the Burlington Eagles Minor Midgets one season ago, posted a 1.97 GAA and four shutouts in 34 games played.

Should the Hounds' goalie positions be filled elsewhere, O'Hagan will act as the Hounds third goalie this season while playing Tier 2 in or around his hometown of Burlington.

In another announcement the Soo Greyhounds have confirmed that their first-round selection, Jordan Mayer, will not be attending this year’s training camp.

The former member of the Greater Kingston Minor Midgets has informed the club he has committed to playing Tier 2 hockey in Kingston this coming season.

Jordan continues to weigh all options for the 2008/2009 season.
