Jacobs rink picks up important Players' Championship win

A late steal sealed an important win for Brad Jacobs on Thursday at the Players’ Championship in Calgary.

Sitting at 1-2 entering action at the six-day Grand Slam of Curling event, Jacobs picked up a steal of three in the eighth end to pick up a 6-2 win over Niklas Edin of Sweden.

The steal came after Edin, trailing by one at the time, blanked the seventh end to hold onto the hammer in the final end.

Jacobs opened the game with the hammer and blanked the first three ends before scoring a single in the fourth to open the scoring.

Edin got on the board in the fifth end with a pair before Jacobs took the lead for good in the sixth end.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, will wrap up round robin action on Friday afternoon against Brendan Bottcher at 2 p.m. (Sault time).

The second of two Grand Slam of Curling events this season, the Players’ Championship features 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams.

The teams are divided into pools of six teams each.

After the conclusion of round robin play on Friday, the top six teams move on to playoff round action, which begins on Saturday evening.
